5 Travel Tips for good oral Health

Maintaining good oral health while on vacation can be a challenge. Remember these travel tips to make sure you continue your oral health care routine no matter where you are.

5 Travel Tips for good oral Health

1. Pack the basics
Dental supplies may vary depending on where you are traveling to so it is important to pack it with you. Packing a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss can be easily forgotten and you may not have time to purchase these items immediately after you arrive at your destination. Also, don’t forget to pack lip balm that can also protect you from sun exposure. Using a lip balm with SPF 15 or higher will protect your lips from sunburn.

2. Dry out your Brush
When your toothbrush is stored at home, it can easily be dried since it is not in a travel case. Allow your toothbrush to air dry before packing to minimize bacterial growth when stored in a travel case.

3. Have a backup plan
Depending on where you are traveling to it may be a good idea to pack additional dental supplies. Some hotels will provide toothbrushes. If you have forgotten yours at home or need a replacement, this may be an option.

4. Keep your routine
Stick to your oral hygiene routine when you are on vacation; brush and floss according to your regular schedule so that plaque and bacteria do not accumulate. It is recommended to brush at least twice a day, and floss at least once a day.

5. Make time for a Dental Checkup
It’s recommended to see your dentist for an exam before you leave to avoid a dental emergency while you are out of town. It doesn’t hurt to have your dentist’s contact information in case you have an emergency while away. When you are on vacation, your oral hygiene should come with you!
