Here are Five Tips for a Healthy Halloween
1. Have a Plan
Eating candy is okay but it’s important to have a game plan. Before going out trick or treating, fill up on a healthy meal first. This may help with overeating candy that night. Also talk to your kids and set limitations on how much they are allowed to eat each day.
2. Avoid Sticky Candy
Not all candy is the same. Eating candy that melts fast and can be eaten quickly will not be in the mouth as long as other types of candy. For example, sticky candy remains in the mouth and on teeth for a longer time and promotes tooth decay.
3. Drink more Water
Drinking water can help rinse out the mouth and lessen the duration of sugar exposure on the teeth.
4. Clean between teeth
Flossing will help clean teeth where their toothbrush can’t reach. Flossing will help remove any food particles between their teeth especially after having sticky candy.
5. Keep your teeth healthy all year round
Even though the Halloween candy will come to an end, it is important to keep your children’s teeth and gums healthy all year long. Making sure to always brush their teeth twice a day (for two minutes) and keeping sugary treats to a minimum will help protect them from developing tooth decay.
